This sucks....

So yesterday was possibly the worst day I've had in forever. Lectures weren't exactly the most fun thing in the world so I was really looking forward to an awesome indoor training session. It didn't happen...I ended up bouncing my skull off the sports hall floor like a basketball during the first drill of the session. Made one helluva noise from the impact, seriously it friggin echoed around the sports hall, caught the disc though. Everyone sorta stopped and looked around like "Woah, Spud. You okay?", I was fine, bounced right up and passed the disc on like a boss. I carried on playing until about 10mins from the end of the session then came home and iced my head to stop it from exploding on me. The headache still lingers a little but they may be down to what happened afterwards...

So I get home and ice my head thinking "Well Suits is on later and you love that so maybe tonight'll be pretty awesome. It seemed like it was gunna be a good night. Watched suits after dinner and then watched Iron Man 1 & 2 with the gang, was pretty awesome. Then the night took a turn for the worse when Dan got up to make some tea and said that his vision had gone all blurry and that he had a headache. He went for a lie down to see if it would shift it, it didn't. So we called 111 and they said to cart him up to A&E. We did....at 2.30am. I left him in the capable hands of Alex and Willis around 3-3.20am and trekked home. Got in and stayed up til about 5 wondering what the hell was wrong. Eventually fell asleep to wake up again at 8. Dan was back home, Willis and Alex hadn't slept and were playing Crash Bandicoot. We're still not sure what's wrong but they prescribed Dan some codene (or whatever) after finally seeing him around 7am.

I didn't manage to make it to outdoor training today due to being injured and sleep deprived, which sucks since the team for outdoor regionals was being picked. Thought I might have stood a chance of getting a place on the team too but hey ho. Always next year right?

So as you can see it's been an eventful but not particularly fun couple days. Let's just hope the rest of the week shows some improvement.

Well, this could be interesting....

So I found out today that I've been nominated for the Sports and Societies awards to win Sports Personality of the Year....not quite sure how to react. I mean I've been fairly committed to Ultimate and attended training wherever possible and not for any other reason than I enjoy the atmosphere, the people and obviously the sport...but I wouldn't say I've shown outstanding attendance or improvement...I guess all I can really say is thanks to whoever nominated me for it and that I'll continue to do what I do regardless of if I win or lose. Don't get me wrong, winning would be awesome, I'm just surprised I've been put forward for it. Not sure if people outside the uni can vote but here's the link anyways:

Me and a load of the Frisbee guys.

That's Willis, he's just chillin'.

Dinner yesterday was amazing, because Dan, Alex and Willis combined forces to conjure up one awesome steak and ale pie. It was incredible. Alex accidently bought some steak and ale sauce thinking it was hunter's chicken sauce and thought "We can make a pie with it" (or something like that...) and so decided to learn how to make shortcrust pastry. You'd think pastry would be alot harder to make then watching a youtube video, reading a recipe and watching a Gordon Ramsey video on how it's done. For something that took them 20mins to learn to do and was a first attempt, it turned out amazingly well, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Nice work guys.
The pie in question.

Today also lead to the invention of the Crash Bandicoot Drinking Game. You kill an enemy, you take a drink. You die? Take a drink. Mention the fruit in any way, as apples, whompah fruit or mangos and you take a drink, gain a life from them for another drink; Game over and you finish your drink. Get a crystal, win a drink. Every 3 lives you swap players. So far it's working well. We'll probably end up applying this to Spyro and Croc at some point too.

Well that's pretty much it for now.

Vote Spud for Sports Personality,

She Lives!

A wise man once said "I get knocked down, but I get up again. You're never gunna keep me down." and right now I can't help but think "Truer words have never been spoken.". My laptop is back to full working order (for now at least)! Life is good again. Most people would probably be asking "So what? You fixed your laptop, you want a medal or something?" to whom I'd answer something along the lines of "Screw you, she's important to me.". All it took to fix her was a return to the factory settings which is a blessing in disguise really, now she's running faster as all the random crap on here is gone.

Had an absolutely amazing day today.Went to the cinema to see Chronicle with my bro Ant, which was awesome. A brilliant movie, kinda like Akira but with actual people and no weird ass ending. Then went on to play two awesome games of ultimate for the in-house super league tournament, because purple team needed a man and blue team also had a game (Woo! Blutonium!). It was incredible. Starting to think I'm beginning to improve, still got a ways to go yet but I'm getting there none-the-less. Got an outdoor game tomorrow so lets hope I can play well then too. It's gunna be harder but like I said before, once you get past that initial burn and warm yourself up to it then life seems a bit easier on the pitch. Only bonus with tomorrow is that Blurple is a combination of two teams and so we're unlikely to iron-man it, that would be hell. Also spent a good quarter of an hour catching up with one of my bros back home, Rich. All in all today's been a good day. .

Alex's birthday party yesterday was pretty cool. Involved us consuming a lot of pizza, them consuming a lot of alcohol and me laughing too damn hard at something that shouldn't of been funny but it was.

Let's hope it's the start of a good week and things keep this pace.

41hrs 18mins later.....

Finally managed to finish Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword - Hero Mode after 41hrs 18mins. Only took us (Ant, Willis and Me) an hour and 20mins more than my first play through, although we didn't do many of the side quests but hey, it was hard okay? Like seriously, one of the hardest games I've ever played. However now we can move onto playing Paper Mario and The Thousand Year Door, one of my favourite games of all time; Next to SSX 3 and Tales of Vesperia.

In other news, snowed again the other day which was awesome. Although it wasn't very deep it still cheered me up as always. Didn't get to play a proper outdoor ultimate session in the snow but there were a couple impromptu throw abouts which were fun and practice is practice. Think I might be getting the hang of forehand throws but we'll see what happens I guess.

Indoor training is still killing me but I'm still enjoying it and even if I don't seem to be improving all that much, I'm enjoying myself which is all that matters in the end. Got our new kit which looks pretty awesome, can't wait to christen it. As Sam would say "It's pretty swag.".

Laptop seems to be slowly dying which sucks. Gunna have to back up all my stuff to an E-HD (thanks Dan) and run a system restore, failing that then a new computer may be necessary, but lets hope it doesn't come to that. I mean this thing has never been the most powerful computer but it got the job done and that's all it needs to do. It's only a little over a year old as well so it should be able to last a little bit longer.

Not much else to say really, things are still pretty quiet around here which is both a blessing and a curse I guess. Haven't spoken to many people from back home for awhile so I may have to spend sometime sending out a couple messages here and there.

Snow! And that's pretty much it.

Well it snowed this weekend which always puts me in a good mood. I love the snow, always have done, always will do. I know that when it falls the country descends into snow filled chaos as we're never prepared to deal with it. We are forecast snow and we're told that the government is ready to spring into action and make life way less difficult but they never do. Yeah you may have fuck-tonnes of rock salt/grit but what good is it sitting in the distribution centre? Why aren't you out there....you know, distributing it? Not that I'm really complaining, my travel plans weren't influenced by it in any way shape or form. I got to go out with some mates and have a midnight snowball fight. Was one of the best times I've had out in the snow, but I still maintain that a three-man slingshot would've made it a lot more fun.

Aside from the snow, it's been business as usual around here. Although I did discover that the IT support guys around here aren't as good as you'd think they are. Went in there about an update problem that had been troubling me for about a month, they said they were busy with a bunch of laptops with virus' and that I'd tried most of the things they'd have done anyway (Reverting to an earlier restore point/running virus scans). That's fair enough, I'll wait my turn and until then I'll see if I can find a solution myself. Sure enough that night I fixed the problem and now my laptop is working fine again. The flatmates said I should see if they have any part time work going, think it's taking the piss slightly but I can see where they're coming from.

Can't say there's much going on this week really. It's meant to snow again this weekend which I sincerely hope it does. Although it might make Alex's birthday celebrations a little bit difficult but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. It should be a good night if we are able to go through with it though.

On a more important note lectures are beginning to cover new topics such as the structure of the skin and fingerprints. Chemistry is still boring as sin but that's just because it's A-Level all over again really. I'm not the greatest at chemistry but I remember enough that so far chemistry has consisted of me getting more and more annoyed at angry birds. That game is designed to hate people. Seriously it needs to die in a hole somewhere, as much fun as it is and a great way to waste time it hates me.

Think I've rambled long enough to make a decent length post so I'll go and do nothing constructive now.

It's quiet...

Title says it all really. It's pretty quiet here in Lincoln at the moment. Had today off due to my lecturer being sick, got tomorrow off for the same reason so I don't plan on doing anything too strenuous. After training yesterday though that's not exactly a bad thing.

As much as outdoor Ultimate is a pain because of the temperature and the wind it's a helluva lot of fun. I'm surprised more people don't turn up 'cause if they did then they'd realise how much fun outdoors is. Yeah it involves a lot of sprinting up and down a football pitch and can be tiring but once you get into it, it's a really good laugh and a lot of fun. Really helps to work on your skills as when you pass you gotta account for the wind and it also challenges your ability to read the disc and place yourself to catch it. I'm not the best by any means but I'm getting there, certainly improving my fitness if not my hand eye co-ordination and general skill at the game. 'course with outdoor you also have the ability to "lay-out" (dive for the disc) more often, you could do it indoors but there are all those nasty walls and hard floors to contend with.

Snow Day 1/12/10
I'm looking forward to the next couple days/week as this cold weather is meant to hit pretty hard and I love the snow. Everything looks so cool (no pun intended) in that sort of dull but calm light that a heavy snowfall brings with it, leads to some really awesome days out and some even better photos to remember it by. Should also lead to some pretty cool (not doing it on purpose I swear) Ultimate. From what I've heard and what I've seen of their play in the snow it looks like a great time, so hopefully we get hit with a load of snow.

Since it's been quite quiet round here (least from my perspective), we've had a little too much time around the flat and have begun to ponder what flavour crisps would go well in a strawberry jam sandwich. It's weird but it keeps us occupied and you never know we might discover some kind of awesome new student food that both cheap and tastes awesome. We've done a little research but haven't turned up anything good so far, but we'll keep working on it.

I did think of giving story writing another go, but I can't seem to come up with any good ideas. I mean I've got plenty of time but it's one of those things that you have to be in the mood to do and have an idea of what you wanna do as well. For now? I'll stick to reading and leave the writing to the professionals.
